- 35th Anniversary
The Building Program consists of modifying the original cast-in-place bowl seating to improve sight-lines and seating layout.
This 20,951-seat multi-purpose arena is located on the campus of Brigham Young University in Provo, UT. Home to the BYU Cougars, men’s and women’s basketball teams, it is among the largest on-campus basketball arenas in the West Coast Conference
Building systems, special features, design and construction schedule, and overall construction budget:
Existing multi-purpose arena structure constructed out of steel superstructure and cast-in-place concrete substructure and seating bowl. Changing the geometry of the bowl seating required modification to the cast-in-place concrete steps. The stepped bowl consisted of areas of slab on grade and elevated reinforced concrete spanning to support walls. Construction procedures and strict demolition and repair sequences and procedures were developed to accomplish the revised bowl with minimal cost and maximum speed.
