The new Administration Building at the Detroit Arsenal was awarded to the Design Build team headed by Granger Construction and Neumann/Smith Architecture. As part of the design build team Desai/Nasr Consulting Engineered carried out the Structural Engineering Design and Construction Administration Services.
The structure is an eight story 227,000 square feet steel framed office building design to meet the requirements of the International Building Code 2006 and all relevant UFC codes including UFC 04-023-03 – Design of Buildings to Resist Progressive Collapse. The tie-force method was utilized to provide the required level of protection. With additional redundancy built into the lateral force resisting systems in both major directions. Windows, glass doors and curtain wall systems and their supports designed to meet the blast load requirements as prescribed by the applicably UFC Codes.
Coordination of design and engineering documents was instrumental in achieving the project goals established in a formal partnering process and facilitating completion ahead of schedule.
