Wayne State Chemistry Building BIM-2

Chemistry Building Addition – Wayne State University – Detroit, MI

The project consists of the construction of an addition with an atrium, auditorium, offices and interaction space, with two (2) bridge connectors to the existing building, and renovations to the existing building.
The project involved 70’ high atrium, constructed with 2 lines of 24” diameter steel pipe columns. Glass curtainwalls are supported from the atrium roof. The auditorium consists of precast concrete curved/sloped walls. The new addition is designed as an independent structure with limited movements. Special expansion joints were developed between the new and existing auditorium.

The structural framework is exposed. The bottom 20’ length of columns are coated with integument paint to provide required 2 hour fire rating.
